El Viaje de Carol by Roberta Peterrson

This was another very good film. Although we were unable to read the subtitles you could get a good feel of what the film was all about by just the expressions on the faces of the actors and the emotion that was put into the scenes.

This was a movie about a child ( a young girl) that faces the challenges of the loss of her mother and a dear friend, being separated from her father because of the Revelation.

Before the loss of Carol's mother Carol and her mother come to live with the grandfather. Carol finds new and dear friends from local boys. Being from different social back grounds Carol find adventure in her every day activities with her new friends.

Through out the movie Carol learns of litters her mother was receiving from her father through a underground carrier. Reading the letters without her mothers knowledge Carol is able to locate her father after her mothers passing. Writing him through a teacher in town, Carol did not want to tell her father of her mothers death. The grandfather did notify the father of the death. At Carols birthday party risking his life Carols father drops a surprise for Carol from his airplane. And then risking being caught comes home to be with Carol.

During the search for Carols father by the local solders ,Carols dear friend is shot and killed by the solders when the bollet that was meant for her father struck the boy.

This film was a very difficult film to see in class the tears were hard to hold back.

  1. It was really sad and tragic that the young boy was shot when the bullet was intended for Carol's father. What a hard life to lead for such a young girl. Maybe that is why she was able to adapt so well. I didn't realize that the letters were not coming through the regular mail. I assume this is why the man hit Carol's young friend, because of something to do with the letter that was delivered to Carol's father and maybe the teacher was punished in some way for the father's stunt in the airplane. It was a good movie but I really missed the subtitles!
